Performance artists such as actors and musicians have long been familiar with what the Alexander Technique has to offer. It is often taught as a part of their training and is used to enhance their vocal and instrumental expression, as well as to ease movement and improve their ability to perform in a more fluid, freer way.

Many other people come for lessons because of a particular physical problem they are having, such as back or neck pain, issues with joints, a recurring injury or strain and, in some cases, breathing difficulties.

In truth, anyone can benefit from the Alexander Technique as we are all affected by unnecessary muscular effort or tension which can interfere with how we function. The Alexander Technique is a gentle, holistic approach, treating the person as a whole and consequently benefiting both body and mind.

In 2008 the British Medical Journal performed an evaluation of the benefits of the Alexander Technique as part of its Back Pain Study.
